(Anaheim) OSCA Social Justice Film Series

February 20th from 7-10pm PST in Room 1285

For the Social Justice Film Series, each event will feature a film screening followed by a facilitated, guided discussion aimed at fostering critical reflection and meaningful dialogue. On February 20, the series will present the 2019 American biographical legal drama Just Mercy. The film centers on the work of Bryan Stevenson, a young defense attorney and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, whose career is dedicated to providing legal representation to individuals on death row and others who have been marginalized by the criminal legal system in the American South. Following the screening, participants will engage in a guided discussion examining the film’s broader social justice implications, including racial bias within the criminal legal system, the death penalty, mass incarceration, and barriers to equitable legal representation. The discussion will also invite reflection on themes of moral courage, systemic injustice, and the role of advocacy in promoting fairness and accountability within legal and social institutions.
