Citation Management with Zotero Online

This workshop is a hands-on introduction to Zotero. Zotero is a citation management software (sometimes also called a bibliographic or reference manager) that is extremely customizable, allowing the user to adapt it to their own workflow. Benefits of using a citation manager like Zotero include: easy collection of scholarly literature from multiple sources; organization of citations; ability to share citations; and the ability to insert formatted citations and references into Word documents.

In this workshop, we will introduce the software and go over its features briefly, then there will be a live demonstration to see those features in action. Only a few use cases will be demonstrated in this workshop, but many things are possible through Zotero. This workshop is intended as a starting point to get familiar with the software and its capabilities.

If you would like to follow along with the demonstration portion of the workshop, the recommended setup beforehand is to download the following to your computer from zotero.org: the Zotero program (Zotero 6) and the Zotero Connector plugin for your browser (available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Safari users do not have to download a separate extension, but should enable the Connector in preferences - see zotero.org for more information). The Zotero Word plugin is bundled with the program download, but you may want to open Word once Zotero is installed to make sure that it appears there.
