Psychotherapy Foundations of Clinical Supervision Online

This program examines the influence of major psychotherapy theories on clinical supervision practice and the development of supervisory competence. Participants will explore how theoretical orientations shape supervisory stance, goals, case conceptualization, and intervention strategies, including concepts such as parallel process within psychodynamic supervision and collaborative empiricism within cognitive-behavioral approaches.

Learners will differentiate supervision methods derived from psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, systemic, and constructivist traditions and evaluate the strengths and limitations of each approach across supervisory contexts. Emphasis will be placed on selecting and implementing theory-informed supervision interventions that align with supervisees’ clinical orientations, developmental needs, and presenting clinical material.

By the conclusion of the program, participants will be better prepared to integrate diverse theoretical frameworks into supervision practice and tailor their supervisory interventions to support supervisee growth, clinical effectiveness, and professional identity development.
