Advanced Interventions to Treat Trauma Based Nightmares Online
Millions of Americans toss and turn each night hoping for a good night’s sleep. Distressed sleep related to nightmares is often seen across a variety of age groups, cultures, and demographic populations. The good thing is that there is hope for a restful night in the absence of nightmares. Answers to nighttime fears surrounding scary awakenings are not found within the purchase of a new mattress, the sounds of waterfalls in the background, use of aromatherapy, and counting sheep. Imagery Rehearsal Therapy combined with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy strategies have proven to be useful in helping many individuals improve poor quality sleep along with reducing the intensity and frequency of nightmares. Webinar participants will learn how to keenly listen to their clients’ sleep struggles to in-turn help them effectively modify their sleep habits, develop more positive thoughts surrounding sleep, and have confidence in their ability to regain control of a normal sleep routine in the absence of overwhelming nightmares. Important topics such as medical conditions, biological factors, stimulus control, sleep restriction, imagery, and dream rehearsal will be discussed in great detail to develop treatment interventions.
Led by Dr. Lillian Gibson, this webinar will provide mental health professionals best practices to assess and treat nightmares. Participants will learn how to apply treatment specific approaches to help clients achieve better sleep. The on-line training will use case vignettes to guide the presentation and uncover mistakes that can be made when effective approaches to improve sleep are not utilized. Participants will leave the webinar with a clear understanding of factors that influence sleep problems along with powerful strategies to help their clients feel rested and rejuvenated. This is a dynamic training clinicians treating PTSD should attend to effectively treat all facets of trauma symptomology. Being an expert in sleep science is not required to help patients better manage their fears surrounding conquering nightmares.
