Perceived Supervisory Support and Burnout Among Behavior Technicians Online

Burnout among behavior technicians remains a persistent challenge in behavior analytic service delivery, with significant implications for service quality, staff retention, and organizational sustainability. As front-line providers, behavior technicians are frequently exposed to high-demand environments with varying levels of training, supervision, and support. This presentation examines key indicators of burnout, including emotional exhaustion, reduced job satisfaction, and decreased performance. Further highlighting the broader organizational consequences, such as absenteeism, turnover, and disruptions in client care. Drawing from current literature and preliminary survey findings, this session explores supervisory practices associated with both positive and negative supervisee outcomes. Particular attention is given to how supervision quality, feedback frequency, and perceived support function as critical variables influencing staff well-being. The presentation will also analyze systemic gaps in training, crisis preparedness, and feedback practices that may contribute to burnout and turnover among RBTs. Rather than focusing solely on outcomes, this talk emphasizes modifiable supervisory behaviors and organizational contingencies that can be adjusted to better support staff. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how supervision practices can mitigate burnout and promote a more stable, effective ABA workforce.
