Beyond Fatigue and Brain Fog: How Mental Health Therapists Can Support Clients with Cognitive and Health Issues Online
As increased life stressors and illness affect the U.S. population, therapists are hearing more frequent reports of difficulty with cognitive functions (Ricks, et.al, 2023). Client complaints include trouble with concentration, short- and long-term memory, making decisions and overall lack of energy (Jebrini, et.al., 2025 & Bland, et.al., 2024). A 2021 study concluded that 1 in 10 adults endorsed experiencing a mental health crisis in the last year (Anderson, et.al., 2025). As health care professionals we can offer psychoeducation, resources and methods to support clients with these concerns and potentially reduce their risk for further impairments. Clients can benefit from guidance on goal-setting, symptom monitoring, cognitive restructuring, breathing practices, movement, energy conservation and activity pacing.
Join us to learn about probable contributors to these health trends and discover research-based clinical strategies for improving client functioning and quality of life. Participants will learn strategies for approaching sensitive health conversations with clients and identify the ways in with ableism affects the emotional aspects of illness. Furthermore, participants will learn to evaluate client progress when clients are living with impairments.
